A couple Weeks ago, we kicked off our annual campaign with the Cornflake Breakfast. We heard speeches by some amazing people, Mr. Peter Morrison of Canadian Western Bank, Mayor Mandel, our Executive Director Deb Cautley, and I’ll admit I shed my fair share of tears listening to our two client speakers share their stories. We also had a wonderful game show “Win it in a Minute”, hosted by Edmonton’s own Josh Classen, with some amazing celebrity contestants, Bridget Ryan of Breakfast Television, Donovan Workun of Atomic Improv, Brandy Taylor of Sonic 102.9, John Sexsmith of Global Edmonton, and our new cornflake champion Mark Connolly of CBC Edmonton. The contestants played games using items that we are always in need of at YESS, such as lip balm, food, toiletries, snacks, and of course, money. Attendees at the event also were treated to a breakfast just like what our kids get every morning: cereal -the breakfast of champions. We sincerely hope that everyone in attendance had a very good time, but also came away with a sense of the importance of what we do at YESS.
YESS is working to raise $1,000,000 of our $4,000,000 budget during our annual campaign which runs from Dec. 7th to January 20th. Reaching this goal is critical to the agency’s ability to continue serving the youth throughout the year. Even though Alberta was not hit nearly as hard as the rest of Canada by the economic downturn, and is recovering very well, Charities of all sorts are hit especially hard. YESS is very lucky to have some very strong supporters in the community both large and small, and we know the importance of stretching a dollar. So, we cherish every donation we receive from the community and know that it is hard earned and deserves our respect.
